Pioneer 711 into 4 ohms

Well, I couldn't resist picking up a Pioneer 711 for $284 at BB yesterday. I was bouncing back and fourth over waiting on a good Denon for $650 or an Onkyo for $500. I decided on the spur of the moment to jump in and get the system started and upgrade the receiver later. I can always retire the Pioneer to the bedroom...

I'm using my Toshiba TV speakers for center channel and have two Cerwin Vega VS80s for front speakers. The only real issue is the 4 ohm Advents I used for the surrounds. Hopefully if I keep the volume down I won't fry the amps...

The setup sounds surprisingly good given the funky speaker config. Next month I'll get a sub and some polks for the surround and eventually a good center. The CVs are fine.

First impressions of the 711 are very good. The manual could use some work. It came defaulted to stereo and it took some minor hair pulling to get configured. Using the Tos SD 1700 DVD with component out.

Later, TJ
