1st RPTV: Hitachi or Toshiba?
 

Before I go any further: I've been told a dozen times to wait and save more money. Cricumstances beyond my control dictate that I only spend about $1300.00. That said:

BestBuy.com has the Toshiba 50" TheaterView (50A62) for $1299.99 and free shipping.

CircuitCity has a Hitachi 50" (50DX20B) also for $1299.99 (since I don't have a truck, unless I can borrow one, I may have to pay around $50 to $75 for delivery)

I've read a couple of good user reviews on the Toshiba (I couldn't find any professional reviews) but nothing on this model of Hitachi. What's your opinion guys? This will be my first Big TV, I don't need HDTV at this time.

One thing that is a slight factor is that I have the 10% coupon from BestBuys reward zone (can you use this online? I need to check). That means $130.00 less for the Toshiba.

IMO, spending $1,300 bucks on a Non-HD Projection TV is not a good idea. Do you care if the TV is 4:3 or Widescreen? Just because you don't want HDTV right now what about 2 years from now? With your coupon, I bet you could get a 47" 16:9 Panny HDTV for a $140 more.

I've had a Toshiba (model TZ50V61) for about 25 months now and LOVE it. Solid set.

Have you checked over at epinions.com or audioreview.com? They usually have loads of reviews from all sorts of folks.

Also, a deja.com search on the model numbers can sometimes find a few reviews.
