Is my TV High Definition?

I have a 36 inch sony wega XBR. I've asked several people who all say that the tv will not support High Definition reception. Does anyone know whether my tv supports it or not and what i would need in order to watch hdtv? Thanks.

Do you know what model it is?

I'm pretty sure that your TV is HDTV-ready. Although it might not be able to display a 720p signal. To watch HDTV, you need a set top decoder. Then you need to find out what HDTV signals are available in your area. I've heard that www.titantv.com has that info if you give them your street level address. Otherwise, DirecTV and Dish offer HD-programming.

any XBR sets from the past 3 years are HD-ready, meaning they can accept 480p/1080i signals via the component video inputs. You still need a HD source, but your set will support the display of HD signals.

I have cable right now which i know does not support high definition. Is it possible that i can get an antenna and get some HD broadcasts, because i really dont wanna subscribe to a satelite company?

I have not gone through the process yet, but I understand that getting HD signel is not just a matter of hooking up an antenna. You at least also need a HD converter (about $500).

Also, of course you need to have stations that broadcast in HDTV in your area.

About 95% of my TV viewing time is spent watching DVD's, so it is not a priority for me.
