Argh! The remote sensor on my DVD player might be bad

Crap. I have a two+ year old Aiwa DVD player, and suddenly yesterday it wouldn't recognize any remote commands, whether it be from the unit's original remote, or my programmed surround receiver remote.

Later in the day it would accept from my surround receiver remote. Does that sound like a sensor? I'll bet a repair will equal the cost of a cheap player..

Batteries are fresh, btw

I'm going to bump this thread (I know, a real blast from the past) because I'm starting to have the same issue with my DVD player. I can't get a remote to work on it at all. And what really sucks is that the only buttons it has on the console are play, stop, open/close and power (maybe a pause as well). So that means it's very difficult to watch some DVDs, especially since it's also my all-region player. Anyone know anything about this?

You don't mention the Player(?)...

My OPPO does similar, once in a blue-moon, and unplugging it for a few minutes seems to reset things.
Don't know why, but I've read similar accounts from other owners.

Don't know about your DVD, but it's something to try.

You didn't add a fluorescent light to your room recently, did you?
