Should I get rid of these front speakers? are they old enough?

Okay, my HT setup is fairly decent IMO as far as my receiver goes and Sony DVD, however my speaker setup is all KLH.

What I am wondering is would it be worth it to change my front KLH's to JBLs? What I am wondering is this...the L and R's I have right now are KLH 9912... or at least they look the same..the ones I have are 5 years old. What I wanted to do was to go to bookshelves on stands and I was looking at possibly the JBLs S36 II or s38 II...either one. it would free up some space on the floor, or at least make it look there is more space in that area in my apartment...would it be worth it to make the switch?

Thanks

The KLH speakers that I've listened to are to put it nicely "budget speakers". I think JBL would be a nice upgrade.

But let's start over. Are you planning on upgrading your speakers piecemeal? (i.e. new fronts now, a new center in 6 months, a new sub in a year) Ideally your fronts and center should match.

Secondly, was is your price range? That way we can recommend the speakers that we think would provide you with maximum value.

That is correct as skar stated. Your mains and center should be the same. How much do you want to spend? This is the million dollar question.

Well, I was planning on spending about the price for the JBL's about $500 I suppose, however that would only cover the price of the L and R's so maybe i might look into something else so $500 would cover the price of the LR's and center..or maybe just wait and save a bit more..

My favorite bookshelf speaker in your price range is the PSB Image 2B. They run $399 a pair. You could pair it with the PSB Image 8C center speaker for a total retail price of ~ $700. Street price for the combo is around $550.

I recommend auditioning speakers before you purchase them. Do you live in Moorhead, MN? If you happen to be going to the Twin Cities anytime soon, I know a good PSB dealer in Minneapolis. (The Fargo area has no PSB dealers.) Otherwise Brainerd and Bismark are the closest. (Call them before you travel, some dealers are simply installers that don't have a listening room setup.)

Another great option. The Paradigm Mini-Monitor. Site On Sound in Fargo is listed as a Paradigm dealer.

There is no brand below KLH so that should be your answer.

You only have up to go The JBL's have had excellent reviews and would be noticeable "richer" sounding.
