Where can I find information on what type of TV I should buy?

Is there a site that will let me take a quiz or something and tell me what type of TV I should get? All of the options are so confusing.

My general profile:
I want great picture from my DVD player and I like to watch movies in widescreen.
I want great picture from my PS2 and other game consoles.
I want great picture from regular cable and/or satellite (cable now, hopefully DirecTV when I move)

I don't know of any sites like that. Besides everyone has their own personal tastes.

What is your price range? If you watch a lot of analog cable television you may want to avoid the very large TV's. The problem is that you want a great picture from many sources of varying quality. A display that really shows off a great DVD, will expose the flaws in a cable picture.

My price range is around $500 - $1000. Unless I find out that I can get something really significantly better for under $1500. But definitely not more than $1500.

I think your best bet is a 36" flat screen TV (standard 4:3 ratio). The picture will be large for 2.35:1 DVD's and the standard ratio will be ideal for your PS2 and cable. The picture quality isn't HDTV but with component connections and a 16:9 mode it should look very good. Several modes should be around $1000 or so if you look around.

I'll second Skar's opinion. Get a flat 36" 4:3 TV. It will give you the best overall bang for the buck right now. HDTV looks wonderful with a HD source.....BUT these screens tend to make standard definition TV/DV look bad.
