bose has got some serious guts!
I was reading my email today, and got a promotional from best buy. as I was looking through it I noticed a surround sound system from Bose for $999, but get this, its a 3 speaker system that simulates a 5.1 system. Now call me irrational, but isnt it a pretty incredulous act to market a 3 speaker system that SIMULATES a 5.1 system, and then charge double the price of the average HTIB ??????
Color me baffled! |
That's what Bose does. Way over charges for their gear. You can build a home theater system that blows the acoustimas system completely away for the same or less price.

I am already familiar with their methods of marketing the acoustimas series of cube/sub systems. Honestly, the first encounters I had with the acoustimas were not all unpleasant. but this nonsense with the 3 speaker "5.1" system, isnt that pushing it a bit over the top? I can understand the appealing to women/home decor thing even, but a 3 speaker system is NOT a home theater system by any definition, and then charging $1000 for it, thats borderline criminal IMHO...
I guess P.T. Barnum was very wise in his qoutes :) Think about where home audio technology was in the late 80s.... Frankly I thought this would be FAR more advanced by now than the reality of the situation. other than tacking on a few extra channels and some a/v applications, it seems all the r&d efforts have been put into how to make everything ever cheaper to produce. not so much in making things sound better/more powerful and accuracy in amplification and sound reproduction. |
