subtitles won't turn off!

I've had several DVDs over the past year that automatically show the subtitles when I play the movie. Usually I can get them to turn off by going into the set-up, but there are a few discs where this doesn't work -- no matter what I do! Is this most likely a problem with my DVD player, or the individual discs? I have a cheapie Apex player, so I suspect that is the problem, but I'd like to know for sure. Thanks for any help or opinions!

Have you tried turning them off via the DVD Player remote? It looks like your DVD player is automatically displaying the subtitles.

I figured it out with a little help . . . I do have to go into the main DVD player settings and select a strange language for the subtitles (like Yiddish or Hindu) -- since the player can't display the subtitles in that language -- no subtitles are displayed! Problem solved!
