Best DVD Player under $1000?
 

Hi,

This question probably pops up every other week, but I didn't see any recent threads. I'm looking for a new progressive scan DVD player and would like suggestions from the members about which players have the best performance and value in this price range. I'm not really interested in SACD or DVD Audio, but if the unit comes with the feature, fine.

I was looking at the Denon 2800 mk2 with the new siI504 pure progressive decoder. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this player and whether the new decoder addresses the Chroma bug sometimes associated with the previous model.

I'm also open to any suggestion about any other excellent DVD players as well.

well the best dvd player under $200 with progressive scan is the Panasonic RP62 :)


It uses the Sage chip and seems like a solid value for the $179 pricetag.

For more money I would get the RP91.

By the way I hope you do not think this is a threadcrap. I just wanted to give you an opinion on a dvd player since no one had responded yet with any more expensive dvd players.

Is the Denon 9000ES under $1K?

There's a sucky Sony DVP-S9000ES Progressive Scan DVD/SACD player that's under $1k. There's a Denon DVD-900 that's well under $300, and a Denon DVD-9000 that's $3000.

I believe the Denon DVD-3800 with the new firmware is the best choice under $1000, though it's very close to that limit.

The Elite DV-47A has SACD and DVD-A

I'd put my money on the Panasonic RP-91...

The DV-47A is Chroma Bug ladden, and until a firmware of some sort corrects it then I can't really recommend it for DVD playback. To do it all over again I would have probably bought the RP-91 with a nice Sony CD multi-disc player, preferably ES.

I know there is a newer Marantz out there that does SACD and DVD-A playback... Any word on that player yet???
