Onkyo SR-600, Sony STR-DE985, etc.

Anyone know anything about the websites DnG Ditial or i4 Digital? I can get the Sony STR-DE985 receiver for under $400 from both these places. mySimon calls them a three-star certified store, but the funny thing is, the web sites of these New York-based Internet stores look identical content-wise.

I found these ratings for i4digital:

Also most of us here do not have the best opinion of the Sony DE line of receivers. I would highly recommending checking out the Onkyo SR-600 and the Denon 1802 before you buy.

Resllers? Well that explains the prices and why the web site looks the way it does. Thanks for the reply. Why do you prefer Onkyo_over Sony?

Build quality and sound quality is why I prefer Onkyo and Denon over Sony. Here is a thread from a few months ago where many DVDTalkers discussed Sony receivers:

Thanks again for the reply. I talked to my "home entertainment system" expert friend who also recommended Onkyo and Denon (and Outlaw) far above Sony. I guess I'm just used to buying things with the Sony label and assuming they're top of the line. With HiFi.com's receiver sale and finding a 10% discount coupon, I got the Onkyo 600 for $402. Now comes the finding speakers part.

Excellent choice and a very nice price.

What is your speaker budget? I recommend spending about 1/3 on a receiver and 2/3 on speakers. I would try and audition some speakers at a nice local A/V shop because only you can decide which speakers sound better. I highly recommend speakers from PSB, Paradigm, and B&W. Speakers from their entry level lines should be perfect.

Considering that a $500 receiver only cost me $400, I suppose my budget for speakers is up to $600. I know this budget will limit me to middle-of-the-road equipment (like the Onkyo 600), but I'm just looking for something that will get the job done right.

My friend recommended I check out the Energy Type 5, Home Theater Direct Level III, or basically any speakers reviewed at cheaphometheater.com (although the Swan Diva is well out of my budget).

I'm getting this for a new house I'm moving into at the end of this month, so I have a couple weeks to decided what speakers to get. I only got the receiver now because of HiFi.com's sale.
