$1499 W/ $100 Rebate for Daewoo 34" WS ; good deal?

That would make this set $1399 plus tax.

For a long time now, I have been waiting in the wings for an affordable direct view WS TV.

This Daewoo is on sale at this price until 8/18. And I'm seriously considering running right out and getting it. Mostly because the price is affordable, it's WS, and it's a direct view.

I'm creatively financing this acquisition by selling back 2 weeks vacation time. I have not vacationed in 2 years, and would max out accrual in 2 weeks time.

Information about this set is greatly appreciated. Any reason why I should not plunk down 2 weeks hard-earned, pre-empted vacation $$$ on this set?

For some reason, I don't have a good feeling about Daewood.

I'd highly recommend that you get the 32" Samsung widescreen TV for $1199 from Bestbuy.

edit: I checked bestbuy and the samsung widescreen TV for $1199 is 30" not 32", but a great deal, IMO.

I picked up one of the Daewoos you are talking about at Costco (same deal $1499 W/ $100 rebate) last weekend. So far no real problems, the universal remote doesn't work with my digital cable box, but that is about it. The picture is very clean. I also checked out the samsung listed above but I thought the picture was brighter and cleaner on the Deawoo. I'm not a slave to name brands like others in this forum but I made my choice and I'm happy. Good luck with whatever set you get.

if there is a costco in your area, i would go for it... costco takes anything back, a firend of mine returned his hdtv for no reason to costco after 7 months and they didn't care. if you ever have a problem costco most likely will take it back.

I have returned a 27inch tv 4 months later b/c it needed to be degaussed and they exchanged it without asking me a question. I also discoverd a dvd i got from them was defective 6 months after i bought it and they gave me cash back for it b/c they no longer had it. Their customer service has never let me down and if you have a problem with that tv they will take care of you...

but that samsung is a good deal... its a 32 4x3 or a 30 inch 16:9 for $1200...

a 32 4:3 tv screen is about 25.5 inches wide and 19inches tall but watching a widescreen dvd (1.85:1) you see about 14inches tall and 25.5 inches wide

a 30 16.9 tv would be about 26inches by 15inches tall... so its just a little bigger in widescreen programing but for 4:3 programing its like a 25inch tv (after the gray bars are put on the side)

So i would go witht he 32inch 4:3 b/c it will be bigger for most of the programing and almost the same size for widescreen dvd's

the nearest Costco is in Michigan (Great Lakes) which about 1-2 hours drive from my place
it would be a bitch to go back & forth if anything happen with the TV

that's why i need the review from daewoo's owner before i go to Costco

You also need to buy a membership before you can buy anything at Costco.

When I visited South Korea, I found that Daewoo (and Goldstar) make vending machines. They also make a ton of other stuff. Samsung even had life insurance advertisements. It was all pretty eerie.

What that has to do with TVs, I don't know.

WS Daewoo now $1299 (after $100 mail-in rebate) @ costco until 8/31

I have not quite made up my mind about this widescreen; but it's getting increasingly awfully hard to resist!

It's still available at Costco for $1300 at the checkout, and $100 mail-in rebate.
