Need recommendations on Powered Subwoofer ($200-$400)

OK, now that I got the HDTV in place and an acceptable receiver (pioneer 850), I want to move away from the passive subwoofer i have now and get a powered one. Any recommendations on ones that will work good with my receiver? Price range is around $200-$400. Thx

How big is your space and how much power do you need? Cambridge Soundworks makes some very good affordable subwoofers (especially if you purchase from eBay seller hifi.com). I got a Basscube 8 (8" woofer) for a little over $100 and it is perfect for apartment dwelling. You'll need something bigger if you're in a larger space.

Here are a few good places to look:

http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_br...PSU&market=HOM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1368697992

I personally bought an Infinity HPS1000 from Ubid for $450 and have been very happy. It has a 15" driver, two 15" passive radiators, and a 1000 watt RMS amp.

The room is about 15x15. So I'm thinking of the Infinity
BU120-Z 12" 150Watt.

You might want to take a look at the Velodyne CT or CHT line.
the CT-100, CT-120, (or whatever the CHT counterparts are) would be good bets in that range.
I have the CT-80, and love it. It's more than enough for my apartment. For a house, I'd want something a little more powerful.

One more thing, does cable length affect subwoofer performance? I don't have much room to place this near the receiver, but if I get a longer cable, I could place it anywhere.

audrey Thx for the link. One question though; the description for the VTF-2 says:

VTF subwoofers include built in amplifiers for easy installation. Plug the subwoofer into a surround sound processor's 'subwoofer output', run it inline with your speakers, or use the left and right line outs of a stereo preamp.

Why would I want to run it inline with my speakers; I thought plugging the SW into the subwoofer output was enough.

I think they meant that you could do that if you didn't have a sub output, not for you to do both.

Here are some subs to consider:

PSB Alpha Subsonic 5
Def Tech ProSub 100TL

I've also got the Velodyne CHT-8 (old CT-80) it works great for my apartment living room which is about 20x20. I was able to find an open box special at Circuit City for $199.

Subs

I have to 2nd the vote for the Hsu VTF-2. I've owned one for about 3 months now (had a Def. Tech. Pro Sub 100TL) and it is incredible. Great for home theater and music.

Go to www.bluewhaleaudio.com and check it out. Sasha is the owner and is very customer oriented.

HSU VTF-2. Bought it without hearing it. Best HT purchase I have made. Nothing can touch it for the price.

2 of my friends went out and bought it.

One of my friends has it on order and is eagerly waiting.

Powered Sub Recommendation

Hi,

There are a lot of considerations when choosing a home theater sub. The size & shape of your room, sub placement and the speakers you are matching them to will all have an impact on the amount of bass that is generated.

I work for an online speaker manufacturer and we offer a tremendous selection of very highly rated speakers and subwoofers. We currently have our 8", 150 watt sub on sale for $299. Since we sell direct to consumers, you will get a much higher quality product for less money than if you purchased at retail. We also sell a 10", 200 watt sub and an award winning 12", 250 watt sub for $499 & $599 respectively.
