static in my sub

I recently bought a new entertainment center and after I hooked everything up, a few days later my sub starting having static coming from it. I have disconnected the sub from my reciever but the static is still there. Sometimes it is like a crackling sound others it's just static. Could someone please tell me what this is? Thanks. By the way it used to be plugged directly into the wall but with this new entertainment center it is too large so I bought a few surge strips and installed them behind the screened doors to conceal them and to give myself easy access if I need to remove a certain component. I have 2 strips. 1 for each side of the center.

First things first: lets check your connections and power. Completely disconnect all signal cables going into and coming out of the sub. Next check it on another outlet, one on a different breaker from that your electronics are being fed. If it is difficult to move the sub run a decent extension cord from the outlet to the sub. Let's start there.

I removed the cable from the reciever to the sub and also plugged it into a diff. outlet in my house. It still has the static. The static is not real loud but it is distracting during quiet scenes in movies.

Just for my clarification: The static is still there with the signal cable unplugged?
