My DVD player suddenly won't play vcd's or svcd's but will play DVD's, fixable??
Hey gang,
I have a pioneer dv-333 DVD player that will no longer play vcd's or svcd's. It plays DVD's just fine though. The player recognizes the disk for what it is, vcd. Each disk((s)vcd) will play for about 1 second and stop. I know the disks are fine, they have been tested on other machines. Would a DVD player cleaner be of any use? Do the DVD's use a separate laser? Any ideas? Thanks,
jay

if these are home-burned CD-R/CD-RW discs, then they are using a different laser than DVD discs, and a disc cleaner may be all that is needed to fix the problem. I'd open the thing up and just use rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to clean the lens though; those disc cleaners never seem to get the job done
