Sony 6.1 Virtual Matrix
Hey all, I have a question. I have the SOny STRDE 945, which has something called 6.1 virtual Matrix? What on earth does this mean? I was watching Seven: Platinum series on DVD today, and it went into 6.1 on the stereo, but there was very little sound coming from my rears, then when I changed it so 6.1 wouldnt come on in the dts track, it sounded just like it should? How is this 6.1 used? I dont understand it, please help...

I believe the 6.1 matrix is used to "simulate" having a rear center speaker when Dolby Digital EX DVD's are played (not the DTS stuff) and you don't have a center rear speaker.
If I recall, the 945 doesn't have speaker outputs for the center rear???
just my 2 cents worth...

No, it does not have an output for a center rear, but like I said, when Se7en DTS started up, it came up onmy sony as 6.1 decoding, and didnt sound right, like there needed a center rear, and there wasnt one.

In the past, when Sony has applied "matrix" to processing on their consumer products it indicates assigning sound to more channels than originally recorded. For example: two channels standard stereo to 4, 5, 6, or 7 channel surround depending on the settings and model.
