APEX dvd player
hey, im going to get a second dvd player for my bedroom, and i was wondering which player i should get. so far, i have been tied with the 2 APEX dvd players: the 3-disk AD-5130 (or something like that), or the new single-disk AD-1200. thanks for any reccomendations.

I've got the Apex single disk player. I don't recall the model number, but it was the one for $69 at Circuit City. It definitely feels cheaper than my Sony, but I too have it in the bedroom and it serves it's purpose well. The only complaint I have so far is that the remote is poorly laid out. Most of the buttons are the same small size and tough to distinguish in the dark.
Other than the small remote issue, I have been very happy with the player. |
This should be in the DVD & Home Theater Hardware.

I just recently purchased the APEX 3201 at a Compusa B & M for $59.99! This is my 2nd player and my 2nd APEX. My first APEX was the 600A, and I purchased a mod chip for it. It originally had problems with seamless branching, which the mod chip fixed. It also had the infamous "loophole" menu, which enables me to make it region/macrovison free.
The APEX 3201 has now become my primary player. This also has the loophole menu which I accessed and changed the region & macro settings. There have been widespread reports of a "stuttering" problem with MP3s on this player. I don't usually use that function so I can't confirm that. However, the APEX website offers a patch to correct that problem. You can download the file to a CDR and put it into the player to upgrade the firmware. Overall, I have been happy with the performance of each. As far as I know, the 3201 is the only APEX with the loophole menu without changing the chip inside. For $60, I'd go with the 3201, although there are probably nicer players out there. For me, the 3201 does the job nicely. Good luck! |
www.vcdhelp.com. There are certain advantages to a apex dvd player.

I jumped on the apex bandwagon early. All I can say is, you get what you pay for.
First night I had it the tray door fell off inside the unit. After 3 months the drive motor is dying. Slamming it repeatedly to the ground sometimes gets it to work. I am staying far away from apex for the rest of my life. -K |
