Quick AVIA balancing question
Was calbrating last night with Avia. Never really noticed it, or forgot about it, but on my Yamaha 795, it seems that if I need to balance the left or right front speaker relative to each other, that I need to use the balance control on the front of the receiver.
When firing up my SPL meter, my right front was low relative to the left front, by about 1.5 to 2 DB. I guess I need to play with the balance knob and then recalbrate everything. Do most receivers handle things this way, or do most (or maybe higher end) give you independent control from the remote for all speakers...... |
The 795 is a home theater receiver and should have a level setting for each speaker. You want to use that to balance the output.

I know that. However, after three years plus of owning it, I hven't actually seen a control to balance Left and Right Front relative to each other. If you hit the remote button that cycles you through the Db +/- for each speaker, it cycles through
center, LS, RS, SW No mains. It's no biggie, I can use the balance control for left and right front (Assuming it does not affect everything else). I'll have to pour through my manual tonight to check everything.... |
For the Yamaha you do use the balance control.

Ok. It's offical. Thank you Jim. Now I know that I am not clueless.......
Of course, at some point I should see if the speaker connection is good and then also swap the connection between the two front speakers to see if the Db drop follows the particular wire, etc., but I do think that this is the first time where I could sit down with my own calibration disc on my own time at night and try and get it right....... |
Oops sorry for the bad information...I read the manual wrong.
