Had a power outtage,and...

my Toshiba SD1700 DVDplayer will not come on. Tried unplugging power cord and back in again,no go. Anyone have any ideas? Power outtage occured during a t-storm. All other A/V works.Note, was watching a dvd when power went out. Player just would not turn back on. Wanting to know if there is some sort of reset procedure...

how long did you leave it unplugged for?
if less than 30 seconds leave it unplugged for over a minute and see what happens

Probably just blew a fuse. Just make a trip to Radio Shack to replace it.

The same thing happened to my DVD player a few days ago. Only I need to replace a transistor that blew too.

Thanks for the replies. It was the fuse, but it just blows every new fuse I put in. Must be problem on the circuit board. Anyway, went out and bought a new player..

Does the DVD ROM drive in the old player still work? You should be able to remove it and test it out in your computer.

The same thing happened to me and my player. I tracked it down to the switching transistor. The surge had shorted the transistor internally causing new fuses to blow. I bought a new one for $0.75. Sure cheaper than a whole new DVD player!

If you post a picture of the circuit board I might be able to help you figure out what is wrong. Usually it will be a $2 part or less.
