What does the "midnight" feature do on my reciever?

I have a new pioneer vsx-d711 my model

I have a midnight option on it. I know on the onkyo series they used to have what they called "midnight theatre" which was supposed to take out the highs and lows for the so you can watch with out really disturbing your neighbors?

Dunno that is what someone told me. Does anyone know ?

It is just suppose to keep it quiet and cut out bass so you can play it at "midnight" as to not disturb anyone.

More than just removing the bass, I believe it compresses the dynamic range of the volume so that quiet sounds are made louder and loud sounds are made quieter.
