Sony DVD player - do your DVDs heat up during play?
Just wondering if this is a sign that I'm not giving my player enough room to "vent." It's got about an 1.25" clearance on top of it... it's in between my TiVo & center channel on the shelf above it, and my receiver on the shelf below it. I never noticed the discs getting hot before... so either it's a new problem, or I just never took notice. I also notice "pixellation" (like you see on damaged DVDs sometimes), "stuttering," subtitles coming on w/o me pushing the button, and some sound drop-offs sometimes... although I wonder if that's b/c they're Blockbuster rental DVDs, and they've been abused. Model # DVP-S360, in case that helps.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Edit: A new wrinkle. My disc tray doesn't come out... I just get a short buzzing noise, and that's it. There isn't a disc in there right now, which is probably a good thing. Did I cook my DVD player?

Whether or not it had anything to do with it, I would never put the receiver under any other components, even if there is a shelf between them. The heat from the receiver rises, heating all of the components above it.

TV
Center Channel & TiVo
DVD player (which I sent to the shop, actually)
Receiver
So if I put the receiver on the top shelf, it'd still be under the TV. But maybe the TV would be more resistant to the heat than my DVD player or other components?
BTW, the guy at Best Buy didn't know what was wrong with it... a mechanical problem, he thought. Thanks, genius. So hopefully I'll find out soon. For now, I picked up a DVD remote package for my PS2.
