Any decent small/portable dvd players under $150
My mom wants one for mothers day. One for both the kitchen and her room. No fancy features or anything. She now takes up the ps2 to plug into the back of the tv. DD and DTS are not necessary also. (if any come like that)

Lasonic makes a portable, smaller than most players with a built in dolby decoder so you can just plug it into the TV without a reciever. Available for $99 plus shipping (add. $10) at the Home Shopping Network. It's not great quality and doesn't run that quietly. However, it will play any disc even an HK one my pioneer wouldn't play. It makes a good second player and I can take it on trips. There's often coupon available at HSN to bring the price down further.

The Lasonic is built smaller though not as small as the SONY. It does not have a screen. You can plug it into a 13" TV/VCR combo provided it has those RCA av jacks. My TV combo only has one audio input so I have to use female to male splitter to get the right and left sound, but it works fine. I'm pleased with it for the price.

Have you ever considered a used or refurb laptop just as a dvd player? As more and more corporations go bankrupt those things should be readily available. That and people upgrading. Check out ebay or your local newspaper. You might be able to get something like that cheaper than a standalone player...

if the tv has rca video and audio inputs it will work. You'll have to switch the channel to the 'line in' one. if the TV only has one audio input, you'll need to get have to get a double female to single male connector (almost sounds pornographic) available at RadioShack. I don't know of any B&M that carries the Portable Lasonic DVD player. There are several online stores, but HSN is by far the cheapest. The player comes with all the needed cables and a remote.

well, i got the sony (dont k now model number) at target for 149.99, plus it only weighs 4 kg, so it will be easy to carry from room to room. At least the person there knew what i was talking about.
