Unwanted Purple Haze
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but here goes. I have some older (6 yrs) MTX speakers that cause a purplish glow on my TV when they are placed too near it. They are the mains in my home theater. I figured out a long time ago it was most likely due to the magnetic field from the speaker itself. Aside from moving them away from the TV, is there anything I can do to prevent this when I do place them near the TV?

I imagine there must be some type of magnetic sheilding you could put on your speakers, but I can't seem to find any doing a quick internet search. Maybe I am just imagining this, but some one has to make something for this type of situation.

I would say your best bet is to just buy new pair of speakers.
But... if you feel the need to be creative, try the following:
And for even more fun, don't forget...
Or... you could just buy some new speakers. It would be much easier (and would look better in the HT enviroment).
Good luck-

A simple sheet of plain carbon steel (galvanized if you prefer) even less than 1 mm thick will do the job when placed in between.
You will ground the shield because of the electrical safety, it doesn't matter for the magnetic field. Of course if you surround the speaker with metal sheets (except in the front I presume) this will be the best: you should only assure magnetic continuity at the corners, by either using bent sheets or overlaps secured with screws.
Good luck-

I have never heard of any practical way to shield an unshielded speaker. The drive units are usually the part that is shielded and it would be difficult to fabricate something there.
Best advice would be to shop for new speakers and definitely keep them away from your TV.
