Member's Home Theaters

Since it was mentioned in an earlier post I thought I would start the topic of Members theaters. Here is a link to my theater.

nice set-up Jmeitz!

how do you like your hi-contrast screen?
i'm not familiar with the infocus pj you have, but i've got an LT150 and have just decided to start look for a pro screen to replace the diy job i have up now.
everybody recomends the hi-power, but i've got some serious concerns about it and may just play it safe with a lower gain screen.

did you have a hard time selecting one?
are you satisfied with it?
was it hard to install, etc.
and lastly, is that pj a dlp?

Have you seen the new Stewart Firehawk? It's absolutely excellent for low lumen DLP/LCD units.

In my sig.

I like the hi contrast screen, it makes the blacks look blacker and everything more natural. If I had to do it again the only thing different I would do is get a bigger screen. Yes it is a dlp projector, a higher gain screen with dlp high lumens projectors can cause hot spots and thats the main reason I chose the hi contrast screen.

Hope it's OK to post a pic....

Not quite a 'home theater' as I'm in an apartment. I used a digi camera with no adjustable shutter speed, so I've made the room brighter than it ever is to take this pic. Also, please ignore the cardboard box. You don't see it...[waves hand]...it isn't there....

I've since painted the screen bezel eggshell black. I'm having a stand built for the center channel. Next is a valance or facade or whatever you would call it to cover the bottom of the TV. It will be the same maple the rack is made of and will be stained to match. When it's done, all you will see is the screen.

Thanks for the compliment Mike! I wish I could take some better pics...it's so bright...the atmosphere of the HT isn't captured very well I'm afraid...

Cusm, I searched and searched and could not find what I wanted. So, I designed that audio rack and had it built. I detailed the process on my site if you are interested.

Tommy, that sounds like it's going to be sweet :)

you guys are my inspiration
now I have to start saving a percentage of my pay for cool home theater stuff
first thing will be a dvdplayer(right now I use a dvd-rom drive in my computer for movie watching) and surround sound receiver with speakers

BDB 04-09-02 12:41 AM

Crikey,
Some of you guys have really nice setups. I know that when I buy my 1st house, ( I have a condo now) then HT will be more of a priority.

Now I have a SOny 27" Tv, been tempted by the Toshiba 50" RP HDTV which appears to have an amazing picture.

Sony DVD S700P DVD Player
Sony STR-DE935 receiver.

And B&W 602 S2 for Fronts
CC6 S2 Centre
and LM1 for Rears...

Early Days yet. :D

You have got to be kidding. 42 billion posts here and you watch DVD's on your computer!?

BigDave 04-11-02 11:28 AM

Once we build a house, a HT is in the plans, but this is what we have in our duplex.

yup, usually I use the tv out on the decoder card, to go to a 15in tv :)
when I had a roommate I used his 27 in tv and surround system with a stand alone player

while in college I had other expenses to worry about, but now I have a decent paying job that should give me "fun" money after I pay my bills

Here ya go. I think I'm finally happy with the setup. For now....

And for all you smartie pants, here's a quiz: What was playing in the CD player when I took it's picture?

Took me a second, but then it popped right into my head.

Can you post more information or a link about the rack you are using from IKEA? I looked on their web site but couldn't find it anywhere. My sister is looking for something similar to that.

I couldn't find a link on their site to it. It's called "Niklas" at Ikea. It's very popular there, if she has one near her I'm sure one their associates can point it out to her. Keep in mind what you are seeing is a very modified set for my home theater. The center shelves were custom made by myself to fit the TV and the back support posts where the components are, have custom cutouts and reinforcements to help fit and hold all this stuff. But what you see is obviously the basic idea of what you can buy. It also comes in a lighter wood color and black support posts if you want.
