Banana plugs question

Just wondering if they are all that beneficial. Am I right in assuming that their only advantage is preventing oxidation on the "exposed" part of the speaker wire that is connected to the speaker/receiver? I bought 4 of them for my mains, but didn't buy more, because they are a bit expensive considering what they are.
Any answers?

Thanks,
-G

I use them - but mainly because I demo lots of stuff and it makes changing speakers easy (plus they were free ).

I look at most of the stuff as audio jewlery - some people real like it and if you have the cash go for it.

I only use single banana plugs on my Denon 2802 because the binding posts are too close together.

The connections to my speaker binding posts are all bare wire though.

Like bfrank said, the only real advantage you're likely to see is that it makes it a lot easier to plug in and unplug your speakers.

As stated, bananas are not considered the best connectors. Spades and even bare wire are better. If you have to go with bananas, get some that are "locking" and you will be better off. They have a mechanism that expands the pin for a snug fit that won't loosen from repeated plugging.

Radio Shack golds do the expanding bit and aren't that expensive. I got them because I could never get the bare wire from pulling out of the connections.

I agree. I tried bananas v. the bare wire connection and noticed no differences whatsoever. I don't switch things around a lot and I prefer this direct connection.
