I want to buy a 36'' Flat Screen TV.....
Can any of you guys/girls help me, especially if you have one.
I looked in Consumer Reports of this past month, and they rated a Hitachi as the best 36'' tv on the market, plus it was a flat screen model. It's going for $1,200.
Do you think I should just get a 'regular' 36'' tv, and pay only about $800? Or, should I spend quite a bit more, going for a $1,000 plus flat screen tv?
Opinions and ideas are VERY welcome. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if Sam Club still has 36" Wegas for $999. That was the best 36" deal I've seen.
I wouldn't put any stock in a Consumer Reports A/V equipment review. Consumer Reports speaker roundups are the absolute worst I've ever seen. I would look at an Audio-Video only source for reviews.

Where do you live?
If you're in the S.F. Bay Area, I know of a great outlet store to pick up open boxes w/ full warr. (It's a Sears outlet).
I've picked up 2 VVegas from there, and have sent many friends there.

Sears outlet?
I live in the SF Bay Area. Never heard of a Sears outlet before. Where is it? I did here that the former Good Guys store in Pinole is now their Clearence Center.

TV's must be bought with your eyes just like speakers must be bought with your ears. If you want to compare reliability or warranty info that is one thing. Performance is a subjective evaluation on the part of the customer.

And BTW, I don't think that this location shows up on that Sears page that the poster bellow you linked to.
Great place for bargains, that come with full Sears/Manufacture warr. (you can even purchase a Sears extended warr. if you want).

The slight curve to the screen is not something that jumps out at you while watching a movie.
Now if you were going to go all the way and get Widescreen 16:9, then I'd say go for it.

You bring up a fair point, Phil...
What do you guys think? Is flat screen the way due to the quality and it being the future in TV's, or should I just go with a 36'' 'regular' tv screen, which might be more square and have the curve, but be about $400 or so less?

I really like the flat screen. The screen seems more transparent due to less glare.
But that's a big increase in cost and the weight of flat screens (due to losing the inherent strength of the curved screen and therefore needing much thicker glass) is so much greater. The weight of my puny 27" is ridiculous and it's very "front-heavy".
