buy HD tv's.

they are not flying off the shelf so thus, it gives no real motivation for studio's to go with that

First of all, this belongs in the software area, not movies.

Second, DVDs are an inherrently NTSC format, period. It isn't possible to make current DVDs in HDTV.

HD-DVD is coming, just run a search for "Blu Ray," but it's not here yet.

Yes, I forget the details but I remember seeing a thread on that. It will be several years before we see any Hi-Def DVD's. I believe the HDTV's a re selling pretty well, but with broadcast HDTV awhile away many people are holding off.

Although I'm sure I'll drool over 1080 I can't complain about what I've got now and wouldn't want to spend much more for DVDs than I spend now.

HD broadcasting for all stations was pushed back because NTSC is still wildly used. so don't expect much of technology filled stuff to come out of it all for a bit

technology is all there, beyond what you even know (attend an NAB conference and you will be amazed) but its all about marketing right now

what you mean to say is that DVDs, under current specs, are an inherently Standard Definition format.

It is 1080 lines of interlaced picture. Normal DVD is 480 interlaced or 480 progressive.

The first HD pre-recorded movies will come in the JVC's D-VHS D-Theater format in May. The movies will be approx $30-$40, and the hardware itself (the one D-Theater deck from JVC) can be found for around $1200.
