Remote Control HELP
 

The "Enter" and REV/FF buttons won't work on my DVD's remote control anymore:( I tried a couple of universal remotes but none work with my player and there's only one that i've found that has actual DVD player buttons.

SO... someone mentioned something like 1-800-REMOTE and said I would try that. I did, but guess what, that was only 6 numbers. Has anyone else heard of something along those lines? Or do you know of a universal remote for all brands of DVD players?

The best inexpensive universal remote I've found is available at Radio Shack. I don't remember the model number off the top of my head, but it's the replacement for the 15-1994. It lists for $39.95 but is frequently on sale for $29.95.

The remote has a two-color backlit keypad, pre-programmed codes for hundreds of different brands and models of components, plus learning capability. And if you go to www.remotecentral.com and hunt around, you can find specific codes listed for each function of your brand of component.

It really is a bargain at the price and will control every component you own.

It would really help if you told us the brand of DVD player you have!

I'll second Radio Shack as a good option. Their 5 in 1 remote is great, it sells for $29.95 but is often on sale for $19.95. It's a learning remote and has backlighting. Model # 15-2103.

I have an APEX and it's not on the www.replacementremotes.com site. I may have to send it in to try to get it fixed. Learning remotes won't help since I can't "teach" it since it's broken.

Apex codes are hard to come by, there are really only 3 options that I know of:

1. The Cinema 7 remote can be 'hacked' into controlling an Apex, but a lot of functionality is lost.

2. Go get the Radio Shack remote I suggested in my above post. Radio Shack remotes come w/ Apex codes.

3. You can buy a new remote from Apex for $19.95. Go to www.apexdigitalinc.com and check out the instructions on their site. I believe the instructions are under Support.

You might be able to go to a store that sells Apex players and learn from one of their remotes. I imagine if you bought the remote at Circuit City or Best Buy you could talk someone into letting you do this.

Depending upon how adventurous you are, you might also be able to repair your existing remote. I've read posts on some forums from people who are experiencing the kind of problem that you are and it was caused by the button's electrical contact surface being worn down.

You can go to an auto parts store and buy a small bottle of paint that is designed for repairing the heating element of a rear-window defroster. Open up the remote and paint the back of the non-functioning buttons with the fluid.

It might work, it might not. You might not be able to get the remote back together. But if the remote is going to get tossed anyway, what could it hurt?

i already had a cinema 7 remote and didn't want to go buy a new one just to work the "back up" dvd player.

i hacked the remote and it works fine, as far as i can tell every command can be added, however it requires alot of button punching, took me ten mintues to get all the basic in there.
