beleive it or not..vcr ?

hi all, hope u can help-i need a new vcr-i will never use this to record anything-but it must be a hi fi capable model-? is,do any non super vhs models have an s video output-if so what models,if not,is it worth it to buy a super vhs model just for the s video out-and the main ? is , with this s video out directly to the monitor-will i get a greater picture quality when viewing pre recorded tapes or things i have taped off cable from a standard hifi vhs-(it's only use will be to play back these tapes-but if i get a better picture via s out even though they weren't recorded in super vhs-it might be worth it to me)plz help! thanx!!!

I believe most players except for the real cheapies will have S-Video. It is supposed to give a better picture, but with VHS, depending on your TV and the quality of the tape you may not notice any difference at all.

The only models I've ever seen with s-video jacks were s-vhs vcrs.

SVideo jacks were made for SVHS players, I believe. While you might find a non SVHS VCR that has an SVideo jack on it, it will not do you any good as a coax cable delivers all the lines of resolution a standard VCR is capable of showing.

SVHS is only going to be a bonus to you if you are watching things that have been taped by an SVHS player. If you're watching things that were taped on a standard VCR you will not notice any improvement.

ONLY S-VHS units will have an S-Video output, as it makes no sense to offer this feature on a conventional 230 line playback system. S-VHS offers 400+ lines, thus yielding a considerable benefit from an S-VHS output.
