mains and center < $1k

What should I look at if Im willing to spend $1k on my mains and center together?

I can get the surrounds later, but I wanna make sure i match the center and mains.

Maybe Polk? Mission? are ther Klipsch is that range?

I can go a little more than the 1K if the difference is worth it, so dont hold back in that respect.

I have a Denon 3802. And i like it loud and not too warm.

thanks in advance

B&W, PSB, Boston Acoustics come to mind.

BMoore09 02-14-02 10:02 AM

which B & W's are in that price range?

Brian Shannon 02-14-02 10:17 AM

The 3 series and the 6 series should be in that range. Of course this depends on whether you want towers or bookshelves and ultimately what size sub you want

BMoore09 02-14-02 10:22 AM

well, i just went to listen at my local daler. I think im in love with the Paradigm Studio 40's.

These are the Reference line, right?

I live in Florida. I will drive anywhere reasonable to get the best price. As long as gas doesnt exceed the price difference, of course.

Anyone know where i can get the best deal?

As someone who has in the past worked in a high-end audio video retailer, I hope you would consider giving them your business. They made it possible for you to hear a product you would like to buy. They only thing that keeps them in business is sales. Did you discuss the prices with them?

Good luck.

TriGGaMan187 02-14-02 04:00 PM

Did you get a price quote on the Studio 40s? That is what I am looking at also. One other thing, are they shielded? I looked on the website and I couldn't find anything statiing that they were.

BMoore09 02-14-02 04:21 PM

well, i got a quote for $900 w/o the stands.

I mean, that list price. Most places go a little below MSRP. Maybe throw in the stands?

I dunno. Somethin.

Glad to see this thread went in the right direction:)

Paradigm are excellent speakers for the price. I like B&W, NHT, PSB, etc. also, but for value and sound quality I prefer Paradigm.

I have a more modest Paradigm setup now, Performance Series, but I love it. I too will be going back to the Monitor or Studio series soon and moving the Performance series back to the master bedroom.

Unfortunately finding them online is very hard and I don't know of a single place that sells them anymore. A while back www.costsheets.com carried them, but I don't think the carry them anymore due to Paradigm's pressure. Paradigm has strict rules about mail and online ordering of their speakers.

I have been able to get some good deals off ebay for them, but they were used. If that doesn't bother you check them out over there.

I think your best bet is to ask the dealer about a discount. My local dealer and other Paradigm dealers are easily persuaded to give 10-15% off to get your business. They realize once you live with them a while you WILL want to upgrade again or add more speakers(6.1, 7.1, 8.1, etc.) and you will return and spend more;)

Good Luck!

I second this. Paradigm isn't sold over the net. Most good local A/V dealers are willing to make deals to keep business and build relationships. Your dealer knows that if you have a satisfactory transaction now, you'll be back for more in the future. Since you need stands, it gives you even more space to bargain.

Happy listening. -smile-

My friends and I thinking about taking a road trip to Canada this summer. Not just for the Paradigms, obviously, but if i can save money, ill buy them there.

How much could I get the Studio 40's in Canada for? In US dollars.

Where would I need to go?

(jumping in late in the conversation...)

Just out of curiosity, where did you go to? The only decent A/V stores I know of in G'ville are Sound Ideas and Electronics World. I have bought almost all of my speakers at Sound Ideas, and they tried to give me the list price at first, but if you talk to 'em a bit... they'll come down a tad. Real good people, too.
Of course, you may be talking about someplace else, but that's the only Paradigm dealer I know of in the area.

You should call Audio Video Lifestyles in Jacksonville. They design and build home theaters, but if you call they should be able to help you out. I got my 100's from them, along with componet and speaker cable (canare), and I am probably going to pick up a Studio CC. They have always given me good deals, whereas the other few paradigm dealers always sell at retail.

Ps.. They also have some great demo rooms set up!!

yah, i went to Sound Ideas. They seemed to not wanna budge. But thats before I knew i wanted to buy the center too. Maybe theyll give me some kinda package deal.

Anyways,,,so no one has any info about Canada? Anyone live there and know a good place to get a pair of these suckers for a little cheaper than i can get them here?

BMoore09 02-18-02 06:56 AM

bump...kinda important to me

Trencher 02-18-02 07:20 AM

It's been awhile since I kept up on Paradigm. I think in Canada they retail at the same price but it's in Canadian dollars. So do the conversion and you can see how much you can get it for in US dollars.

Don't know where to get them in Canada. You probably can get a retailer up there to discount too. Try lurking around at Audio Review.com to find out some more info on Paradigm retailers

nekobus 02-18-02 07:31 PM

Call a couple of Canadian stores. Use the dealer locator on Paradigms' site:

http://www.paradigm.com/

This will give you an idea of a price starting point and if the retailer is willing to deal at all
