New Theater
Just wanted to see what you guys thought of my new theater we just finished building in the basement. The room is 15x30 with three levels of seating.

Cool!
Cool! Looks great! The lighting was a nice touch. I am guessing that the lower protruding part of the ceiling is a return-air duct (the one in my finished basement is plastered over and looks very similar). So when can my wife, son and I drop over for a viewing? I'll even bring the popcorn, LOL :) ;)

Very nice!
I am in the planning stages for one of my own and like some of what you have done. |
Neat safari style wallpaper!

Just to let everyone know, my father in law and I built this room in 3 or so months, If you do it yourself and know the right people things wont cost as much as you would think. You would be suprised how little this room actually cost me to build.

My home has an unfinished basement and my fear is not what the room will cost to build, but the amount of money I will sink into the equipment and furnishings

How do you like the LP340v?
I currently have a painted wall (colormatched to .80 gain Dalite high contrast), but am replacing it with Stewart Film Greyhawk. |
Nice! I'm moving into a new house in a couple months and am going to be taking on the same task. I only have a 10x20 room to work with though.
How tall is each section of the ceiling in there? (both sides - the ductwork side and the non-ductwork side, and on each riser). The room I'm going to be building it in seems to have the same crappy duct setup as yours, a double row of ductwork extending 4 feet out of the wall. Unfortunately its only 7' ceilings, so after covering the ductwork, that side will only be 6'. :( |
I like the 340V alot, even more since I added a filter to the lense which does away with some of the green tint you get on movies such as jurassica park and not.
As far as the ceiling height' goes, I have 9ft ceiling and with the duct work they are about 7'8" The first riser is 6.5 inches off the ground and the second is 12" So on the last riser I have about 7 ft of head clearance under the duct work. |
Did you do any sound proofing?
Did you setup some speakers and test the room with an spl meter before finising? Thanks. |
Yes the walls and ceiling are fully insulated. R19. Yes I did use an SPL meter to set things up, C weight 75db. The only problem is of course is that if you sit farther from the front you hear the backs more, So i had to meter it from the center of the room or where mostly I will be sitting.

Very nice...
I love Polk. I'm using the CS400i as my center now...replaced a 245i that I now have in my bedroom setup. Only thing thats not Polk is the M&K sub...but I'll get around to replacing it sooner or later...thing still sounds awesome. Again...nice setup. |
