Help Needed Selecting (big) TV for a relative........!

I have a relative who has budgeted approximately $2500 for a new big screen TV. I am seeking recommendations on what people like, what people think is best, and why, etc.....

Parameters for your thoughts:

1) definitely 4x3 recommendations only ! He watches essentially 100% TV (from cable). No DVD or Surround equipment at this point. Assume this will not happen.

2) budget is somewhat flexible, but the $2500 point is the app. range.

3) If all you looked at is the TV you own, please restrict your comments to what you like/dislike about your TV only.

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Something for you to consider...

You want to base the screen size of the TV screen by how far you sit from it. You want to sit somewhere between 1.5-2 x the screen size. (Example. If the TV has a 50" screen you need to sit at least 8 feet from it). This is especially true for watching cable TV because cable TV is not going to look very good on an RPTV. I have owned 3 different big-screen TVs and cable always looks below average.

Distance is not an issue. Right now they are WAY too far from their 27 inch TV. And I don't think he wants to go "down" to a 36 inch Tube, nor spend the money for the 40 inch Wega.
