Video Essentials Dvd

I just purchased the VIDEO ESSENTIALS DVD online, I was perusing through HALF.com and noticed that there are a number of different UPC codes for this DVD. Are there differnt versions out there???

It says there is a 1997, 1998 and 2001 release date. What is the latest and greatest version, or are they all the same?

I only know of the current edition of VE, and the forthcoming <i>"Digital Video Essentials"</i>, which is a new-and-improved (like Tide) version. The Digital Video Essentials disc is being produced in 1080p HD format and will also include new test patterns and dts and PCM audio audio tracks.

Contrast???

Ok I got the DVD and I was fooling around with my TV adjustments last night, but couldn't find a CONTRAST adjustment?

The only settings I can play around with are:

BRIGHTNESS
COLOR
TINT
SHARPNESS

Is it possible to calibrate my TV without the contrast adjustment, or will I need the service codes for either my TV or DVD player???

Do you have a "black level" or "picture" setting? All TVs should have some type of contrast control.

PICTURE = CONTRAST???

I think my set does have a PICTURE adjustment.

I assume you mean PICTURE = CONTRAST???

Yes picture=contrast:)

When I calibrate my TV the contrast is at about 20% and the brightness is at about 60-70%.

I find that gives me the best black level on my set using the O IRE setting on the DVD player.

Yours will probably vary slightly, but the contrast should definatley be lower than the brightness!

Settings...

Ok I fooled around with it some more last night... I'm kind of a tweak freak and this sort of thing gets addicting to me.

My set was bought in '97, so it's kind of on the older side and does not have component video inputs or HD decoders. I can't believe how amazing some of the pictures looked after I half @ss calibrated it with this dvd!!!

Why don't all dvd's look as sharp as it does on that dvd? Is it because of space???
