Renting a DVD recorder?

Hey all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a DVD recorder for a few days? Like you used to be able to do with VCR's way back when? There's a few things i'd love to get on DVD-r soon but don't have $1000 to shell out for a recorder myself. :(

Please don't suggest that another member try to "get one over" on a store.
