I did...

I did just that, but the one time that I needed it it did not work out for me. I had a lightening strike that took out my Mac Amp, Onkyo tuner and Adcom D/A converter. It cost over $500 to fix.

The only other things that fried were the panamax surge protectors... Everything that was plugged into it was saved, except for the Panamax unit itself! I sent both of my Max 1000+'s back to the factory and they fixed them and sent it back, good as new. I tried to file an insurance claim for the $500 but they gave me some grief over it and there was a $250 deductible.

I guess it only helps on larger claims, or thefts where there is a police report. The acts of GOD type claims are a little more difficult to collect on, but I guess it all depends on your insurance carrier.

Yes, and it's worth it to get replacement cost coverage.

I put it on my renter's insurance policy, plus I took photos of all my important stuff and put those photos away in a safe place.

You can never be too prepared..

I have coverage up to $60K from my homeowners ins.
I have all the receipts
I have digital pictures and S/N's

For only $230 per year and a little time investment, it's worth it for peace of mind...

I thought that Panamax surge protectors came with insurance guarantees for any equipment connected to them. Is this not the case, or is it full of loopholes so they never have to pay out?

Panamax

Yes they do come with the insurance, not sure how that works out. Unfortunately 3 items were not plugged into them for various reasons, and I paid the price for it. I guess I could have lied and said they were connected to them, but I just figured I would be honest and cover it under my homeowners...

Panamax was a dream to deal with!!! Sent both units in, and got them back in a week... NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Surprisingly Adcom gave me a lot of trouble with fixing the D/A converter and it took them 4 months to diagnose and fix it. Their customer service was subpar to what I was used to... Not sure if I will ever buy something from them again, and this is from someone who has been loyal with them for over 10 years!

McIntosh of course has some of the most knowledgable and friendly staff.
