need advice on progressive dvd player purchase

I am trying to decide between the toshiba 4700 jvc sa70bk or the sony 700. Which one of these players has the least noticable bugs......chroma, sub title, etc. This will be my first dvd player, & would like for it to last. It would be hooked to an older 36" tv with rca & s-video jacks. Later on I want to upgrade the tv & be able to create a home theater....but first I want to purchase the dvd player. All comments/help would be appreciated.

I can't speak about the Toshiba but I own the Sony 700p. It does have the chroma bug but I have never seen it and frankly never looked for it. I think it is a great player for the money.

Might want to look at this link

The JVC and Toshiba are pretty equal from all I have read, there is a Tosh 5700 out as well. I went for the JVC and I really enjoy it, a lot of nice options in audio connections, a great preferences menu, great sound with DVD Audio, and of course the Movies look awesome through Component out to my 56" TV.

I would recommend either the Toshiba 3750 which is the same as the 4700 with out the built in processor which will save you some cash or the Panny rp56 which is the red headed step child of the rp91 same chip, but with out the aspect ratio scaling or the dvd audio ability both of these come in around 225 and would make an excellent player

The RP91 uses the Genesis chip, while the RP56 has the Sage chip.

For a detailed comparison between the performace of both players, try Secrets of Home Theater & Hi Fi's DVD Benchmark - Progressive DVD Player Shootout # 2.

I have the JVC XV-SA75GD . It is wonderful! I've had no problems what-so-ever. It's my 3rd JVC dvd player and I've never had any problems with any of them.

I second the JVC recommendation all the way.

Best DVD player out there for the money. Blows away the Panasonic RP-56, perhaps the most poorly constructed piece of electronics on the market today. If price is no object to you, I'd also consider the Panasonic RP-91 for about $475, but for half the price the JVCs are the best deal out there. And, if you can live without DVD-Audio, drop down o the 60/65 models and save about $60 bucks- they're the exact same DVD players as rhe 70/75 series, juts minus DVD Audio.
