s-video pin count

Confused (as usual)
Currently having a problem with my laptop. It doesn't seem to have the same number of pins that my s-video port on my tv does. are there more then 1 type of s-video? if there is, is there a cable that converts the two(or more)?

S-video has four pins. There are several similar-looking connector types, but they aren't s-video. If your laptop has a similar jack with a different configuration of pins, it could be for a keyboard, mouse or some other peripheral.

Well if you read the description it also has the composite video on there too which you need an adapter for. You should be able to plug an s-video cable in with no problem and it will only use the pins carrying the s-video signal...which is 4 pins of the 15.

Ah, is that what that means? ok I was making sure, because i did plug a s-video cable in but i didnt get a signal on my TV. I assumed it was because i didn't have this so-called 15 pin s-video cable. It must be another problem then..
thanks for the input!

You may have to go into the video settings on your computer and tell it to output s-video.
