Center Channel

A few days ago I noticed I wasn't getting much sound out of my center channel even when I turned the volume way up. I checked the center channel on another system and it's fine. I figure it must be something in the receiver. I have a nine-year-old Sony Prologic receiver that I'm now using. What would go out in the receiver to cause this? Everything else is fine, and actually the system now sounds just about as good as when I had the center hooked up.

If it's not something simple to fix, it will give me a good excuse to upgrade to a new receiver soon.

Well it is possible that the center channel has simply gone bad, ie., cold solder joint might have failed.

I would run the test tones. If you cannot balance the front three then you may have no choice but to get a new receiver if you have checked the center.

One final thought, be sure that all three front speakers are connected correctly. If the center is out of phase that might explain part of the problem.
