DVD player freezes up repeatedly after layer skip - ALL THE TIME!
I have lurked on this site for quite a while but never really post, but whioe I was watching the Godfather last night, I just got fed up. My DVD player (a Samsung, and I don't know the model # as I am not at home right now) freezes up repeatedly after the layer skip all the time, even on brand new discs. Usually I just hang it up. Nothing works, turning off the power, trying to skip forward the problem areas, etc. Any suggestions? The DVD player is about 2 and a half years old, is it time to replace?

Yes, or try to hunt down a Samsung firmware upgrade (not sure if they exist in CD-R format like the Panasonic RP91 which can have its firmware upgraded by merely sticking in a firmware Cd-R with the right files on it).

I just scanned through the thread and nobody mentioned Samsung players, but you should still check out that thread. Note how many makes and models of machines are choking on the GF collection; I wouldn't use problems with this set as a reason to replace my player.
Note that I have a Toshiba 3750, and have had no problems with this set. My old Marantz player, and a friend's Toshiba 2109 both choked on disc 1.
