Looking for a DVD player that plays multiple formats?

I am looking for a "cheap, but good" DVD player that plays multiple formats, especially Mp3, CDR, CDRW, VCD? Any ideas?

check out www.vcdhelp.com for a *large* listing of DVD players and what they're compatible with.

I just picked up a JVC which plays SVCD, VCD, MP3, DVD Audio, CD, DVD, CD-R and CD-RW. Really sweet, and can be had for just over $200. That is a single disk model, there is a 7 disk model that is about $80 more. Apex makes many cheap low end DVD players that support many formats too.

Model XVSA70BK

There is a 75GD model, and the only difference is the color.

The 7 disk model is 90BK and 95GD, there is an 80BK and 85BK but they do not support DVD-Audio.

You can get the Panasonic RP56 for about $200 shipped.
Great image for this price class.

I've been doing some research and have read about the Pioneer DV-440. Does anyone have this one or know anything about it?

The 440 is a great player. It plays DVD, DVD-R, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, mp3 and has Burr-Brown DACs. Do a search of this forum and you will find a lot of info about it. It also plays beatup rental discs without any problems.

Just a note.. after hooking up my JVC DVD Player today, to a digital TOSLINK cable. All I can say is WOW. The picture is great, and everything about it so far is awesome. DVD Audio is pretty nice too...got a few disks inserted in the box and I am very happy with this player.

OK. I admit it. But I love mine and so do my four friends that also bought them. I'm REALLY hard on DVD players and have killed more than my far share.

The 440 is a damn nice player for the money. It and my RP-56 keep me quite happy.

If you want one of the best players on the market that does not have the Chroma Red Error go with the Panasonic RP91K You can find it on line for $416.00 at this link . Just my thoughts.

Then I would recommend the Panasonic RP-56 with the Sage/Faroudja FLI2200 for under $200. It's a steal at that price. Just received a nice writeup in "The Perfect Vision".

You can buy modded ones here:
http://www.mindlogic.com/Prod_MSDVD.shtml

I linked to the front page instead of directly to the Pioneer page because the front page has a pop-up deal for free shipping.
