Sony DE575 vs. Onkyo 494

I'm deciding between the Sony DE 575 and the Onkyo 494.

The Onkyo although I would have to use an etailer and it seems to put less watts, but I've heard good things about them.

Opinions?

Go with th Onkyo, it isn't a matter of watts!

The Onkyo will have more power(read:current) and better sound at half the wattage than that of the Sony!

I am sure most will agree on that

Onkyo all the way. Much better build quality and sound than the Sony. Sony's low-end receivers are pretty poor.

The Sony's specs sound impressive, but the Onkyo's specs are more truthful. The Onkyo will beat the Sony in real life. Search for "494" in this forum and you will find lots of happy users.

thanks guys.

What are some of the best eretailers you have used? I have one I'm getting a price from, but my experience with them is very minimal.

Crutchfield is always excellent. jandr.com is good and will sell the 494 for $279 over the phone and they may even go lower if you work them a bit.

I concur, ONkyo is the way to go, definitely over Sony.

I fifth the suggestion to go Onkyo.

If you are scared of etailers you should be able to find the Onkyo 494 at Circuit City for $299. An etailer would only save $20-40 or so.

There's a nice 494 going at Ubid for $144 right now. There's only one in the auction, but only 1 bid for it at $129 also. $144 bid gets it.

I have bought a 484 and 494 both for around $150 on Ubid and they were remanufactured and all work great.
