Radio Shack sound level meters...analog or digital?
 

Advantages/Disadvantages? Other than price, the only thing I can think of is that with the digital version one wouldn't have to worry about accidentaly damaging the needle at high volume levels...your thoughts?

I've heard people say that the analog is easier to read because the numbers on the digital one has a tendency to jump around (If you were running 74.5dbl it would jump back and forth between 74 and 75db). The digital has some functions that the analog does not have. It's realy a toss up... but I don't think the digital is worth the extra $$$ if you are just oing to use it o calibrate your speakers.

Definitely go with the analog.

I have the digital, but would definitely go with the analog...

You know, I've always heard that the analog was easier to use, and that's what I purchased. However, my installer prefers the digital one, and che certainly knows what she's doing.

Analog all the way.
And if you are measuring SPLs loud enough to damage the meter...I think I'd worry more about going deaf then the equipment :)

I use an analog!

For calibrating speakers... analog. If you plan on using it for other things the Digital can be superior (with the Max features, averaging, etc). It's much easier to watch the analog needle wave up and down when you are walking around looking for room nulls then it is to watch a digital display update twice a second. I've used mine for various other projects and the digital functions can come in quite handy.
