Bose Lifestyle 50, Maybe???
 

Hey all, haven't posted in a while, glad to be back to DVD Talk. I'm in the process of upgrading to a better home theater system. I've always used Bose products in the past. I'm looking for similar systems as the lifestyle series. For the $3500 i would spend on the Bose Lifestyle 50, is there product(s) out there that pack more punch for the money, but still offer the same or similar size elements. i.e.. jewel cube speakers, no big bulky rack system etc... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again, and Happy New Year to all.

In a nutshell, i have around 3500 to spend. What would be a better system than the LS 50 to spend it on.

This is what you want. Makes Bose sound like you are listening to your movies through a tin can and some string. It is right in your price range.

Be prepared for the Bose bashing that is sure to come to this thread, but if you like the speakers get them.

For smallish size speakers also give Cambridge Soundworks a look. They make cubes and you should be able to save quite a bit of cash.

Sony also makes some nice all in one systems with small sized speakers, amplification, and dvd player. The top of the line Sony system should cost you about 1/3 the price of the Bose and probably give you all the sound output you are looking for.

These are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, but if you are willing to step up to say small bookshelf speakers, then there are alot of other possibilities.

some other systems you might consider:

gallo speakers mated to any good receiver (e.g. outlaw, denon, etc.). www.roundsound.com

I've heard both of these systems and both sound quite good.

Try a nice receiver (Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, Outlaw) combined with the PSB Alpha Intro. Small speakers, excellent sound, and should save you several thousand dollars.

Note that having an extremely small speaker or component means that the designer had to make many compromises while designing the system.

Don't own it but I auditioned it. t sounds incredible. I agree with the others saying that you should try a reciever and a speaker package from Energy, PSB or Paradigm.

If, however, you are looking for an all in one system along the lines of the Bose system then I suggest the Nakamichi system.

If you insist on an all-in-one integrated system that melts into your home invisibly, you can do no better than Bang/Olufsen.

The Intros sound much better than the Bose system, as does the Paradigm Cinema Series:

Both are available in white and will disappear into the background, if that's something you desire.

The Gallos also sound better than the Bose system. I have listened to all of these and would recommend you go and audition the PSBs and Paradigms. You will be stunned by how much better they sound and how much money you will save over the Bose system....take yourself on a vacation with the money you saved.
