Progressive Scan
 

For those of you who use progressive scan DVD players. do you really notice the difference between that and interlaced? I haven't really been able to notice all that much of a difference

It depends a lot on what you're watching on.

Dont get me wrong the movies do look great, but maybe I was expecting more

I read somewhere it depends on your tv's line doubler or something to that effect. If the line doubler thing in your dvd progressive player is a lot better than the one in your tv, you will see a tremendous improvement. If it is only slightly better or worse, then you will see very little or no improvement. I think you have to have some decent progressive cables or something to that effect.

I have a Toshiba 40H80 and a JVC FA90BK. Does anyone know where I can read about the line doublers? I would imagine that since my DVD player is a new model and my TV is last years that the DVD players would be better

This will depend alot on the size and quality of the tv you have.

On my 36XBR400 there is a small but noticeable difference. I would expect the difference to increase as the size of the tv increased.

I received a Tosh 3750 for Christmas, and I noticed a large improvement from the interlaced signal my old 2109 put out - and I also have an XBR400. The 3750 has a button on the remote that lets you switch between interlaced and progressive, and in testing, the progessive picture looked much better (to me).

On another note - Brian, I have the Video signal going through the TV direct (video 5 or 6, I can't remember at the moment). Anyway, every time I watch a movie (the Tosh is set to output Progressive by default), I have to enable 16:9 enhancement on the WEGA. There is no Auto detect feature on this particular input feed, and regardless, shouldn't it stay in the ON setting once I set it? Do you have this problem? Just curious, I was not able to find anything about it in the TV manual.

I am at work and frankly do not remember, sorry. I do know that it can be set from the setup menus but I do not recall if it can be made auto.

Thats ok, I am at work as well - I know there is an Auto setting somewhere, I might have to switch the vid input - thanks for trying! LOL
