I have only direct audio/video inputs on my TV and I'm thinking of buying a DVD player. Is the picture quality will be acceptable or should I just forget about it?

Go out as fast as you can and by a DVD player! Even with direct (composite) video inputs on your TV, the picture will be exponentially better than VHS!

Yeah, but how much better? I've got only 20" TV!!!
I heard that you won't see much difference between VHS and DVD on TV sets with less than 25". Is it true?

Even on a 20" TV, the picture quality will be so much better using a DVD instead of a VHS! Also, at some point you may upgrade your TV and still be able to use the DVD player that you buy now!

I was just wondering if gold-plated A/V cable (2 audio, 1 video on both ends) provides better video and audio connection than regular?
Is it worth buying if u wanna increase the performance?

In your setup, the Gold plated connections won't make much of a difference

I'm confused...you mean you have the composite (RCA) inputs, but no S-video?

Most lower end smaller TV don't have S-video, sometimes your lucky if you get composite. (Which by your disbelief I think you may have confused with component inputs)

Zoinks... Watching a 2.35:1 on a 20" tele is going to be tough on the eyes...

If I were you, I would worry about upgrading your tele before buying a DVD player... Yes, VHS is suck, but IMHO a 20" set is just too small...
