Annoyed with my Toshiba

What I want to know is whats the deal with the SD3750. Im using an older non-widescreen tv with an s-video hookup. I notice very distracting flickering line structures. Its even worse when the camera pans up or down. In Star Wars Episode 1, during the opening scroll, the letters get a liquid flow look when they go up. Its sucks. Whats the deal?

That's the good ol' Toshiba 16x9 down conversion at work. Toshibas are the worst at it. If you decide to take it back, I'd get a Panasonic or Pioneer. They are the best at it.

Good thing you didn't pop Final Fantasy in there... My 3750 pixelates the first 2 minutes and then is fine till the ending credit's and lock's up hard... have to turn it off and back on

Play's fine on my RP56 so it's not the disc ..

Does the SD-1700 have this problem? I have a SD-3109 and the 16:9 down-conversion is pretty annoying on some DVDs. I just bought a SD-1700 for my parents for Christmas thinking that surely Toshiba has come out with better software since the 3109. If the 1700 still has this problem then I might take the Toshiba back and get a Panasonic or Pioneeer like the previous poster suggested.

Actually, the new Toshibas have excellent anamorphic downconversion.

Problem...

Shazam,

You said: "Actually, the new Toshibas have excellent anamorphic downconversion."

I just got a nice brand new Toshiba SD4700. Since this is one of trhe newest models, does it have anamorphic downconversion - as far as you're concerned?

Thanks,

Matt

The SD-4700 is a progressive scan player, and if playing back on an appropriate monitor, anamorphic downconversion isn't an issue. If connected to a monitor not capable of accepting a progressive signal...why buy a progressive scan player?
I realize the question wasn't directed at me, but curiosity got the better of me.

Did you mean a monitor that ACCEPTS prog. scan? or one that UTILIZES it (HDTV, etc)? ....

I use it on a 27 inch TV with S-Video hookup... should be fine, then -- eh? What movie do you think i could use to test it the best... click HERE to see my list: http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?al...pe=O&sc=C&ls=A

Thanks,

Matt
