Questions about 2-3 pulldown???

2-3 pulldown or 2:3 or 2to3 or something to that effect.Seems to be the big selling point on one of the Sony progressive scan DVDplayer. Didnt seem to say much about that. Anyone got any ideas about that. It talks about it being "more faithful to a movies frame, within a video system" or something to that effect.

Film speed in the theater is 24 frames per second. 24 frames per second are also stored on a DVD. NTSC TV's display 60 interlaced frames per second. 3:2 pulldown is the process that upconverts the frame speed. A progressive dvd player constructs 24 full screen frames per second (instead of 48 interlaced frames). It then repeats them in a 3 of A, 2 of B, 3 of C, 2 of D, etc. pattern to get 60 progressive frames per second. Hence the name "3:2 pulldown".

That's interesting, somewhat comfusing, but interesting.

I saw that Sony at Tweeters for $299. I am thinking about getting a new one since the one I have is 4 years old. Mit DD1000.

Dose your TV accept a progressive signal? If not a progressive scan DVD player will do you no good. The DD-1000 is not a progressive player, which prompts the question.

No, the Mit DD-1000 was pre-progressive scan. And my Mit Diamond 36" tube is not digital either.

However, we might be getting a new DVD player and I though, might as well get a progressive scan player although I will not be able to use the ps until I get a new TV. Someday, we hope to add the 42" Philips Plasma to our theater.
