Any comments on the RCA 38'' widescreen HDTV?

What are your thoughts and opinions on this tv?

Good Points:

Price is very good for a HDTV (has built in HD Tunner)
Very good picture
Has digital output for audio
16:9 aspect ratio

Bad
Not as good a picture as a similar Phillips - just a lot cheaper
No video output - can not record with a VCR, Tivo, etc
Not a perfect flat screen
Remote sucks (all RCA remotes suck)

Oh yea I'm not affiliated with any corporation I mentioned here

[At least not anymore! Or are you just not incorporated? -X]

You'd be better off with the Sony 34XBR2, IMO its a way better set. I think they both cost the same (around $3299 - $3499), but I saw the two side by side in a local A/V store and the HD picture is identical, but when i asked to have the set switched to see regular tv (NTSC), I could really tell the difference! The RCA set had a very soft "overly stretched" picture, it looked terrible compared to the Sony. To me the RCA is not worth having those 4 extra inches and tolerate using that ridiculously cheap remote to change the channel of a set with poor clarity. You really need to go somewhere that has BOTH sets to really see for yourself. I know this may not be your intended use for the RCA set but I suggest you compare a non-HD regular tv channel to see what i saw. But if your still hooked on RCA which I dought afterwards, make sure you spend an extra hundred or so on a decent universal remote that's worthy of operating a tv at that price!

Boy was I way off in price comparing the RCA 38 with the Sony 34. I now see why the Sony fared better, my mistake!! The RCA is a lot cheaper, I think Panasonic makes a 34 inch 16:9 flat screen that is probably a better match to compare.
