Does "Progressive Scan" look REALLY better than the 'Standard' (480i I guess)?

I have an 'older' 36XBR250 Sony WEGA TV (non "Progressive Scan") and I am kind of envious that the newer models (400 and 450) have the "Vertical Squeeze" and "Progressive Scan" features.

Now back to the question again:

Does "Progressive Scan" look REALLY better than the 'Standard' (480i I guess)? :D

Cannibal, you seem to be having a real problem figuring out in which forum to post your topics. Is there anything we can do to help you figure this out? Perhaps looking over the types of posts in each of the forums would help give you a general idea.

I think progressive looks a little better than interlaced, but if you're expecting a huge difference, you're going to be disappointed. I think some people really exaggerate when they talk about how much better progressive is. On certain scenes in movies you can notice the benefit to it, but as far as general picture quality throughout a film, I think the difference is so subtle that most people wouldn't notice it if they're being honest.

Yes, progressive looks better but is overrated, as said above.

But, anamorphic is definitely not overrated. And if your 4x3 TV can't do theanamorphic squeeze, then I would start saving your nickels to get a new one that can. You will see a huge difference in detail, both in Xbox gaming and in DVDs.

And if you're gonna get a new TV to get anamorphic, you might as well get an HDTV and progressive too. They're not much more expensive.

Do all HDTV's support "progressive scan"? Or are they one and the same?

YES....Progressive Scan is Native to HDTV

I have to also agree that the anamorphic squeeze is more important then Progressive scan on a 4:3 TV becuase your talking about Lines of Resolution being wasted in the "Black Bars" if your set does not do the squeeze which yields a visually lower quality picture. The difference between 480P and 480i is a little harder to distinguish depending on the HDTV.
