Anamorphic newbie conclusions
 

I know there have been many many articles about the anomorphic dvd format but since i'm a dvd and widescreen tv newbie I would like to know if I have understood things correctly.
My own conclusions about the anamorphic dvd format together with a widescreen tv:

Just because it's an anamorphic dvd doesn't mean the picture is supposed to fill the whole screen. Well, it can, depending on the aspect ratio? An anamorphic 1.85:1 or 1.78:1 would fill the entire screen (or almost). But an anomorphic 2.35:1 will not fill the entire screen. The picture quality will be super in both cases though (since it's anomorphic). Am I correct in my conclusion?

Though... what can be a bit confusing is that if you set the tv's aspect ratio to auto it can override the original aspect ratio on the dvd and overscan the picture so it nearly or fully fills the entire screen even if it's not anomorphic 1.85:1 or 1.78:1! (By the way does 1.78:1 anomophic movies exist?)

One question I still have: Should I have keep the panasonic aspect ratio set to auto (and let it overscan) or should I manually set it to 16:9? What do you guys recommend there?
