Whats the best DVD player under $250.00-$300.00??

I got the Sony Progressive Scan 700P but really am not happy with it. I dont like the remote, the on screen set up and the other onscreen features. I am thinking about taking it back and exchanging it for another one. Anyone have any ideas? We also got the 675 receiver to go with it and my husband wanted all Sony because he thought it might be "easier" to link everything up (right now we have a RCA regular tv and plan next yr to get a HDTV or widescreen or whatever). Does this make any sense??? LOL
Thank you so much for all your advice on this board. I am really glad I found it.

Try looking at the Panasonic RP56. It can be found for under $200. It is progressive scan so you are ready for your HDTV upgrade.

I consider the DE series of Sony receivers to be subpar. I would recommend looking at an Onkyo TX-DS494 or the Denon 1602 for a much better value. Sony speakers are even worse.

As for buying different brands, I had 5 different brands in my home theater setup and I haven't had any problems. I would recommend asking the forum for help with any setup questions you have. (I would ask here before you purchase any cables or wires that you may not need or want)

I have the Panasonic RP56 and love it.

I second the vote for either Onkyo or Denon receivers.
Whether or not the brands of your components match is immaterial. The cables that are used to connect them are the same, no matter what components you're using.

Personally, I have an Onkyo receiver, a Marantz cd deck, and the Panasonic DVD player. Hooking up different brands is a non-issue.
The only confusion might come in the remotes, but most HT receivers above about $300 (i think) will have programmable/learning remotes that you can use to consolidate all of the features of your HT system into one remote.

PS: Welcome to the forum!

I went with the JVC S62SL (there are 2 other models that are just different in color: 60BK, 65GD), and am pleased with the unit. It retails for $229, but can be found for less.

I have what you are thinking of taking back and love it. The Sony 700 model was what I was going to recommend. I may not love the onscreen menu look either but the performance is second to none. The picture on my Sony XBR TV is as good as DVD gets.
